In an innovative and integrated safety strategy, Continental is uniting features that have long belonged together – the life-saving elements of active and passive vehicle safety. It makes our cars intelligent and anticipating, and makes driving safer than ever before.

ContiGuard® represents the combined expertise of Continental in active and passive safety systems, from brakes and chassis components to ABS and ESC and even integration of environmental sensors (radar, infrared, and camera systems) and safety telematics. A new dimension in safety has been achieved.

The heart of the ContiGuard® system consists of a safety domain controller in the vehicle that, in every traffic situation, calculates the probability of an accident – and uses this information to initiate responses that can prevent an accident completely. If this is not possible, the system tries to minimize the consequences of an accident. For example, brakes are pre-filled, the Brake Assistant is prepared for full braking, the belts are tightened, the windows and sunroof close, and the airbags are also warned ahead of time so that deployment can be controlled optimally.
